Senna Tea is used to alleviate constipation and stimulate bowel movement. The active ingredients in senna leaves are called ‘sennosides’ or ‘senna glycosides’. They cannot be metabolised by our digestive system and can only be broken down by our gut bacteria. However, the process of tearing them down lightly irritates the colon and produces a laxative effect, thus stimulating bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours of consumption. It is because of this property that senna is used as an ingredient in various over the counter constipation medicines.

For preparation: Take 200ml of cold water and pour over one spoonful of loose tea leaves. Let it sit for 60 minutes. Then strain and drink as needed, before bedtime or twice a day!
