Zvecevo Chocolate - Croatian sweet tradition at PV Euro Market

There's a particular kind of trust that only comes with time. Zvecevo has been earning it since 1921, when a small factory in Požega, Croatia, first opened its doors. Back then it was producing spirits. Nobody could have guessed that within a few years, it would become one of the most recognized chocolate makers in the entire region and eventually, the birthplace of a genuine world first.

A factory that changed chocolate history

In 1964, Zvečevo did something no one had done before: they put rice inside a milk chocolate bar and called it Mikado. It sounds simple now, but at the time it was a genuinely new idea and the concept was later copied across the globe. Croatia gave the world rice chocolate, and Zvečevo's name is permanently tied to that story. The brand has since earned multiple gold medals at Monde Selection in Brussels, one of the most respected quality evaluation institutions worldwide, and carries both the "Croatian Quality" and "Authentically Croatian" labels from the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.

The chocolates we sell at PV Euro Market

At PV Euro Market, the Zvecevo range covers the brand's most beloved lines - the ones people actually grew up with, and the ones that newer generations are discovering now.

  • Mikado Rice Chocolate - available here in both a 75g bar and a larger 225g format, it's milk chocolate with crispy rice pieces throughout. The texture is what makes it that crunch against smooth chocolate is the whole point, and it hasn't changed in six decades. The 225g size is the one to reach for if you're sharing, or if you simply don't want to run out.
  • Samo Ti (which translates to "Only You") comes in three varieties: strawberry filling, cranberry filling, and milk chocolate with hazelnuts. The filled versions are proper filled bars - the fruit fillings use real fruit concentrates and sit inside creamy milk chocolate. The hazelnut version is the straightforward one; whole hazelnuts in good milk chocolate, nothing complicated about it, but it's the kind of thing that disappears quickly.
  • Volim Te ("I Love You") is the other filled bar line on the site, and it leans into richer combinations. The cherry, strawberry and raspberry version layers three red fruits into one filling - you get something that tastes genuinely fruity rather than artificially sweet. The almond, hazelnut and caramel bar is the more indulgent option, with nuts giving it some bite and the caramel rounding everything out. Both bars are 100g.

These aren't limited edition products or new launches. They're established lines that Zvecevo has been refining for years, which is part of why they taste the way they do.

Why People Living Abroad Buy Zvečevo

For anyone who grew up in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or nearby countries, Zvecevo is tied to specific memories like school snacks, family kitchens, particular moments. That's genuinely hard to replicate with another brand. When people in the US, or elsewhere are looking for a taste of home, Mikado or a Samo Ti bar is often one of the first things on the list.

But Zvecevo also holds up on its own terms for anyone discovering it fresh. The ingredients are straightforward, the quality is consistent, and the recipes aren't chasing trends. That's increasingly rare.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where is Zvecevo chocolate made?

Zvecevo is produced in Požega, in the Slavonia region of Croatia. The factory has been based there since the company was founded in 1921 and it's still the home of all their chocolate production.

Is Zvecevo Mikado the same as the original rice chocolate?

Yes. Zvečevo created Mikado in 1964, making it the world's first chocolate with rice. The bar which we are selling here at PV Euro Market is the same product, milk chocolate with crispy rice pieces, that has been made to the same recipe for over sixty years.

What's the difference between Samo Ti and Volim Te?

Both are filled milk chocolate bars, but they have different flavour profiles. Samo Ti comes in strawberry, cranberry, and hazelnut variants. Volim Te comes in two versions: one with cherry, strawberry and raspberry filling, and another with almonds, hazelnuts and caramel. If you prefer fruity fillings, either line works. In case you want something nuttier and more indulgent, the Volim Te almond hazelnut caramel bar is the one.

How should I store Zvecevo chocolate?

Like any quality chocolate, it keeps best somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight or strong smells. A kitchen cupboard away from the cooker works fine, there is no need to refrigerate. Once opened, it's best eaten within a few days, though in practice that rarely turns out to be a problem.
